In My Mailbox 16
This week I got two book for review! (Yay!)
The first which currently does not have a cover is...
Mieradome by Kate Hegarty
Mieradome, revolves around a young girl named Amavia, who believes she is a human girl, but slowly comes to find she is a faery in the world of Mieradome. Amavia's mother, Anastasica, had taken her out of the faery realm and hidden her away here in our human realm, so that she may be protected from her parents' past mistakes. But that was not enough, the forces that be found Amavia, and brought her back into the cosmos of the Grandmother Tree. There she meets other faeries, goblins, Telkar dragons, and Utopisols. Slowly who Amavia really was began to unravel to show the truth. The truth, that she just may be the evil they need to destroy. This is where the story begins.

Waiting on Wednesday (2)
Sixteen year old, Carrie Paxton, isn't the most popular girl in her small town of Stillburrow. But that's never concerned her before. Her life revolves around her writing, and she loves her job as the student editor of the school paper. But when she gets assigned to interview the football team's beloved quarterback, she takes one look into Luke Carter's blue eyes and is a goner. Suddenly, she doesn't like her lowly rank so much. Then her dreamy, popular crush surprises her when he starts to act as if he likes her in return. But there's no way Luke Carter could possibly ever like a nobody like Carrie Paxton. Is there?
The Stillburrow Crush releases February 26, 2010.

Fade
by Lisa McMann
# of Pages: 272
Age range: 16+
Rating: 2.5/5
For Janie and Cabel, real life is getting tougher than the dreams. They're just trying to carve out a little (secret) time together, but no such luck.
Disturbing things are happening at Fieldridge High, yet nobody's talking. When Janie taps into a classmate's violent nightmares, the case finally breaks open -- but nothing goes as planned. Not even close. Janie's in way over her head, and Cabe's shocking behavior has grave consequences for them both.
Worse yet, Janie learns the truth about herself and her ability -- and it's bleak. Seriously, brutally bleak. Not only is her fate as a dream catcher sealed, but what's to come is way darker than she'd feared....
After reading the first book in this original fantasy/fiction series I was excited to read the anticipated sequel Fade. And though the plot sounded intriguing, to me the book just didn't live up to it's predecessor.
A couple things that bothered me, 1.) The excessive swearing. It doesn't bother me really, I mean when you're a teen you can't avoid it. But to read at least one a page got annoying at times.
2.) Janie. Erg. She's so closed off, even after the first book. Sometimes I just wanted to be like, come on, open up! 3.) The ending, climax, whatever you want to call it, was disturbing. Very dark, very unsettling, and very explicit. I guess it was a little eye opening in a way, but some of it I just didn't want my young eyes to read.
Over all, the book had potential but I just felt like I was getting sucked deeper and deeper in a dark black hole, one I couldn't escape out of. So even though I really enjoyed the first book, I'm hesitant to read the third, Gone. But, if you did like this book check out some others:
Need: Carrie Jones
Evermore: The Immortals: Alyson Noel
Swoon: Nina Malkin
Wicked: Witch & Curse: Nancy Holder
The Summoning (Darkest Powers, Book 1): Kelley Armstrong

As You Wish
As You Wish by Jacson Pearce
# of pages: 304
Age Range: 13+
Rating: 4/5
Ever since Viola's boyfriend broke up with her, she has spent her days silently wishing—to have someone love her again and, more importantly, to belong again—until one day she inadvertently summons a young genie out of his world and into her own. He will remain until she makes three wishes.
Jinn is anxious to return home, but Viola is terrified of wishing, afraid she will not wish for the right thing, the thing that will make her truly happy. As the two spend time together, the lines between master and servant begin to blur, and soon Jinn can't deny that he's falling for Viola. But it's only after Viola makes her first wish that she realizes she's in love with Jinn as well . . . and that if she wishes twice more, he will disappear from her life—and her world—forever.
Isn't this such an original plot? Ever since I'd heard of the book, I had wanted to read it, so on one my semi-regular aimless strolls through the library, I saw the shiny cover and snatched it.
The book started off pretty quick, which I like. There's nothing worse than a slow beginning. I didn't love Viola at first, I found her to be kind of whiny and self absorbed, and then when she got together with Aaron I was like...sigh, you don't even like him. But then halfway through the book she turned around and I really started to like her. I think it was because she finally got a clue.
Other than that, I found the book to be light, fun, and original with relatively deep characters and good writing. And Jinn was definitely a boy I would have my eye on. Jackson Pearce created a great teen novel and I will definitely be looking forward to her work in the future.
One thing that I thought was funny was that Jackson made a YouTube video about her one use of the f*bomb . She was saying that some people had given it only one star, and had not recommended the book for teens just because of that one use. I thought that was ridiculous. I mean seriously, the f*bomb if you walk in any public area or read the messages on a town playground I can assure you, that you will see/hear that word. What are people trying to protect us from? Anywho, Jackson is having a contest for her newest novel on her YouTube channel so go check it out!
