Jealous whispers.
Old rivalries.
New betrayals.

Two months after Elizabeth Holland's dramatic homecoming, Manhattan eagerly awaits her return to the pinnacle of society. When Elizabeth refuses to rejoin her sister Diana's side, however, those watching New York's favorite family begin to suspect that all is not as it seems behind the stately doors of No. 17 Gramercy Park South.
Farther uptown, Henry and Penelope Schoonmaker are the city's most celebrated couple. But despite the glittering diamond ring on Penelope's finger, the newlyweds share little more than scorn for each other. And while the newspapers call Penelope's social-climbing best friend, Carolina Broad, an heiress, her fortune—and her fame—are anything but secure, especially now that one of society's darlings is slipping tales to the eager press.
In this next thrilling installment of Anna Godbersen's bestselling Luxe series, Manhattan's most envied residents appear to have everything they desire: Wealth. Beauty. Happiness. But sometimes the most practiced smiles hide the most scandalous secrets. . . .

Envy is the third novel in the Luxe series by Anna Godbersen. I am a lover of historical fiction, I think old fashioned times are so beautiful, and I love how well educated and well mannered the people were back in times before text language and rocker bands. So I was very interested in Luxe when it first came out. Luxe brought all a Gossip Girl lover could want, romance, scandal, and secrets, and readers were left with an ending that had them begging for more. Rumors continued Luxe's story with even more scandalous twists.

Envy takes place right after Rumors, and readers get to see into the lives of the five main characters. Elizabeth Holland, who has a dangerous secret that could ruin her and her family if anyone where to know, Diana Holland, who's feeling for Henry are put to the most extreme test yet, Henry Schoonmaker, who despite being caught in a loveless marriage still finds ways to be with the one he truly loves, Penelope Schoonmaker, who will stop at nothing to get what she wants, her husbands affections, and Carolina Broad, who begins to realize life without money is no life at all.

I will be forever amazed at how well Envy is written, the language is beautiful and readers really feel like their in the 19th/20th century. The characters are very well developed, the plot is thick and moving, and the cover is gorgeous! I gave it a four because the middle was a little slow, and the book was a little long, but non the less I am eagerly awaiting the fourth and dare I say final book in the Luxe series, Splendor which is available for pre-order on Amazon here.
