Goddess of the Night
by Lynee Ewing
# of pages: 294
Age range: 12-15
Vanessa, who has always had the special power to become invisible, discovers that she and her best friend Catty, a time-traveler, are goddesses of the moon who must fight together to overcome the evil Atrox.
I hadn't heard anything about the daughters of the moon series, but when I saw this book at the library I thought it looked interesting enough and took it home. This book was written about ten years ago so some of the content is a bit outdated, but other than a few little things I enjoyed the book.
A quick read, Lynne Ewing starts the book off in suspense as main character, Vanessa, runs from an L.A. club. Vanessa has a secret, she can turn invisible, and her best friend Catty can time travel. So when Vanessa knows she's being followed she thinks that it's because someone has found out her secret, but really it's much worse. Trying to maintain a normal life is hard, especially when her crush Michael Saratoga kisses her and she nearly goes invisible! But as secrets are revealed, and two new players come into the game, "normal" seems like a foreign word to Vanessa. Can she win a battle that's been destined to happen, or will she fall prey to the darkness of the night.
The series I believe is fourteen books (yowza!), and this is the first. Overall it was an entertaining read, Vanessa was a likable character, and the plot was paced. The writing was fairly good besides a few scenes that were hard to interpret, but besides that and a few loose ends the book was pretty good.
Would I recommend this? Sure. So if you liked Goddess of the night, or are interested in other books like this one, check out...
