I was just in Philly this weekend, I live an hour away from the city. And I have family in DC and visit a lot (in fact, I'm heading that way in a few weeks). There are countless things to do in both places. Check out market street in philly, it can lead you to all the cool shops and the more historic area that has Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Also, you can visit Edgar Allen Poe's house. In DC, it's filled with stuff to do. The Cherry Blossom Festival might be over with, I'm not sure. I know it was happening this weekend though. Hitting up all of the monuments and seeing Arlington is completely breathtaking and amazing. If you want a cute little place to shop and just be amongst locals, check out Georgetown. Pricey stuff, but really lovely, and filled with lots of good places to eat!
Thank you so much, I will be sure to check out some of the places you mentioned!
Love DC! Dude, the Smithsonian is fantastic. Plus, all those museums are free!
Oooh have fun! I'm jealous! As Nicole said, there are a lot of cool free museums in DC - like the air & space museum for example! The mall & the monuments are a must too. If you're looking for shopping there's a great shopping centre a bit outside DC. Tyson's Corner.Georgetown is beautiful! And you should go to a Washington Capitals hockey training in Arlington if you're a hockey fan - it's free :DHave fun!
